Evidence for ESSA Rating Confirms the Impact of CAPIT Reading on Early Literacy

Educators can confidently implement CAPIT’s research-backed phonics program, knowing it meets ESSA’s rigorous evidence standards and drives meaningful student growth.

Los Angeles, CA — June 4, 2025 — CAPIT Learning, a leader in early literacy instruction, announces compelling new research affirming the efficacy of its CAPIT Reading program in enhancing early literacy skills among preschool students. In a recent study, preschool students using CAPIT showed significant gains in kindergarten readiness, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness in building strong foundational reading skills.

A research study conducted by Johns Hopkins University's Center for Research and Reform in Education recently received a Moderate (i.e., Tier 2) rating from Evidence for ESSA. The study evaluated the impact of CAPIT Reading on 794 pre-kindergarten students across over 80 schools in one of the nation's largest school districts.

Key Findings:

  • Enhanced Kindergarten Readiness: Students who engaged with CAPIT for at least 30 days were 2.16 times more likely to meet the district's kindergarten readiness benchmark compared to their peers.

  • Accelerated Learning Gains: These students achieved an average of 41.19 additional scale score points on the FAST Star Early Literacy assessment, equating to approximately 46 extra days of learning within a standard 180-day school year.

  • Universal Benefits: The study controlled for variables such as gender, race/ethnicity, IEP status, age, economic status, and baseline reading performance, demonstrating that CAPIT supports diverse learners effectively.

"This research underscores CAPIT Reading's capacity to significantly advance early literacy, ensuring preschool students are well-prepared for the academic challenges ahead," said Eyal Rav-Noy, Co-Founder of Capit Learning. "Our commitment to evidence-based instruction is reflected in these outcomes, highlighting the program's role in fostering foundational reading skills at scale."

CAPIT Reading employs a Sound-to-Print methodology, aligning with the Science of Reading principles to provide explicit, systematic phonics instruction. The program's digital platform offers individualized learning paths, real-time assessments, and actionable data to inform instruction, making it a comprehensive solution for educators.
