OCPS  ·  School-Wide CAPIT Reading Challenge

Race to Mount CAPIT

A weekly school-wide reading challenge. Classrooms climb Mount CAPIT by hitting CAPIT goals. Your school sets the targets, picks the wins, and celebrates the climb.

Illustration of a mountain trail with dotted line leading from a hiker at the bottom left to a purple marker at the summit. The mountain has green slopes and a yellowish peak. The sky includes a yellow sun partially covered by a cloud. There is a large white cloud on the right. The logo for Mountain Cap It, featuring a cartoon character, is in the bottom left corner. A pink circle with the text 'START HERE' is near the bottom right.

HOW THE CLIMB WORKS

Simple, school-run, and built to celebrate

Principals sign up one time, and CAPIT includes every classroom in a weekly report. From there, your team runs the climb your way.

Climb

Classrooms complete CAPIT lessons and make progress toward their grade-level goals throughout the week.

Track

CAPIT sends a weekly Google Sheet leaderboard with each classroom's data. There is zero preparation on your end.

Celebrate

Your admin team reviews the data, moves the flags up the wall, and names the CAPIT Champion of the Week.

Flags move up the wall

Based on each class's average Days of Progress.

2 Days of Progress average: 1 space

3+ Days of Progress average: 2 spaces

Principal's Choice bonus + move

Add bonus points for: Full participation • Week-over-week growth • Strong routines • Family engagement

Weekly prize and celebration ideas

Extra recess • Pajama or hat day • Lunch with the principal • Traveling trophy or mascot • Scratch-and-sniff stickers • Bookmarks • Pencils • Special read-aloud • Certificates

THE WEEKLY RHYTHM

Pick a champion. Move the flags.

Two simple routines each week. Both are fair to every class, no matter the size.

Champions are chosen

Use either weekly metric from the leaderboard:

1: Average lessons completed per student
Weekly, by class.

2: Average growth toward grade-level goals
Weekly, by class.
