Raquel Sullivan, a 12-year veteran teacher at Loving Elementary School, was no stranger to the challenges of early literacy instruction. Teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades had shown her the limitations of traditional phonics programs.
“We were having huge problems with our old phonics program. It was teaching to the ‘middle’ students and didn’t differentiate between the needs of our students… I remember walking into the CAPIT training not with an open mind—little did I know it would completely transform my teaching.”
